Over a decade ago, I lived in the Raleigh NC area. Scoping out the local scene, there were a few interesting bands out there. I got to see Ryan White with his old band Whiskeytown at the Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill. I remember seeing the Backsliders at the Cradle as well. Other local bands of interest during that time were Seven Mary Three, Squirrel Nut Zippers and Ben Folds Five. It took me a while to figure out that Ben Folds was a person, not just a quirky band name. When I heard his music, I knew he had some interesting stuff to offer.
He is going out on tour and doing a few dates with a full orchestra. One such date will be right here in Louisville. 10/04/2008 at the Kentucky Center for the Arts with the Louisville Orchestra. That should be an interesting show to say the least. He is also offering some free concert footage on Myspace. Go to his Myspace page to check it out.
