The Broken West offer a lot to like. They feature waves of indie pop guitar, cool harmonies and seem to mix indie with sunshine pop or early 70's country rock. (Think early Eagles or Byrds). I like the lo-fi approach to recording, where the song is the thing, not the production. Simple, hooky pop with waves of neat guitar and vocals. Definitely worth a listen. They are from Los Angeles, featuring members from Texas, Connecticut, California and Florida.
The Broken West formed in 2004 in Los Angeles and soon gained a reputation for excellent live shows, and a good local following. Their debut EP, The Dutchman's Gold, was released in May 2005 to good press and the respect of the indie rock universe, including indie label Merge Records, which signed them to a record deal. The group's strong debut album, I Can't Go On, I'll Go On, is now being followed up by their latest effort, "Now or Heaven". Check them out.
