Garage Rock is back! Meet Two Cow Garage

If you long for the days of garage bands who rock with unpolished abandon, you owe it to yourself to check out Two Cow Garage. From PunkNews.org, "The group was formed in September 2001 by singer/guitarist Micah Schnabel, who began playing with drummer Dustin Harigle in and around Columbus. Guitarist Chris Flint joined the group after seeing one of their early shows, and bassist Shane Sweeney followed soon after. The group released its first album in 2002 and embarked on a near-constant nationwide U.S. tour, clocking over 300,000 miles on their tour bus."
I heard some buzz, and did some research on them. I like what I hear. Sounds like a mix of alt-country, cow punk and good old fashioned rock and roll. I have included a link below for some free mp3's of the Garage and other mostly indie and alt-country tracks. I like the other band on there too, Drag the River. The Fest down in Florida is coming up very soon and Suburban Homes Records has put out a nice sampler of their bands involved in the shows. Enjoy!

Sarah Palin Hung in Effigy (Not a town in Nebraska)

West Hollywood Hangs Sarah Palin in Effigy

From the Wing Nut Right Wing blog Moonbattery:

"The homosexual community that festers in West Hollywood has expressed its class and its political sophistication in a single gesture by hanging Sarah Palin in effigy:

The excuse is that anything goes, with the Halloween Carnival coming soon. Somehow I doubt we'll be seeing BHO hanged if effigy in West Hollyweird, any more than we'll be seeing FBI and Secret Service investigations, like the ones that resulted when someone tied a cardboard effigy of The One to a tree at George Fox University last month."

Sarah Palin, when asked if she knew about the plan to hang her in effigy, stated:

"Well, that there Effigy is one town I am sure gonna stear clear of, ya know?"

A Word of Advice to the Pro Life Movement: You are Getting PLAYED...

Double Check (at least til 2006). Right Wing Supreme Court? Check. Do we still have abortion on demand? Yes. Did you hear anything about abortion coming from the right? No. They were too busy trying to scare you with immigration, tax cuts and our Iraqi invasion. Not much news on the abortion front.
They did nothing on the abortion issue, because it is a powerful tool to divide people. Why would they want to get rid of that? Immigration and terrorism have lost their luster as wedge issues. The old Republican trifecta of "fears, queers and smears" has seemed to have lost its luster as well.
This time out, why don't you vote for your own economic interests instead of putting more money into feeding the Republican fat cat machine by offering sweetheart deals and tax cuts, no bid contracts and other freebies. If you want to get rid of abortions, use your faith as a positive change by showing love, kindness and giving assistance to the women in need of help. That would be a much more effective way of lowering the abortion rate than calling people baby killers. I have been called a baby killer. I have never killed a baby. I brought two of the damn things into my house and they have gotten quite large and noisy. Who doesn't love a baby? Wake up and smell the stench that is the Republican Wedge Issue that is Abortion.

Death Wish Records Releases Fall Sampler and other Freebies

Hey. I love free samples of ANYTHING! And free music is at the top of the list. For hardcore fans, Death Wish Records has issued their fall sampler for free download at their website. There is a generous selection of 21 tracks featuring some of the best from their label. I am a geriatric (old guy) punk fan, so some of the modern hardcore (let's say post- Agnostic Front) is too hardcore. Am I getting old? I listen to it anyway, trying to keep up on the hardcore scene. I do admire the bands for rocking HARD! If you are a frequent visitor to this site, you know my tastes lean more toward tuneful SoCal punk, but I still raise my fist to these hardcore soldiers!
For indie fans, or if hardcore is too unsettling for you, the band Sleep Station has released free mp3s just for promising to vote! No you don't have to register to vote to get the tunes or anything. Just click and download. These guys are accoustic, tuneful and well-crafted songwriters definitely worth a listen. http://www.eyeballrecords.com and http://www.deathwishinc.com/files/dw2008fallsampler.zip

Against Me! Involved in Bus Accident
Against Me! was involved in a bus while traveling between dates in Denver, Colorado and Salt Lake City, Utah last night. Tom Gabel discussed yesterday's bus accident on his blog: “Everyone was asleep when it happened. I didn't want to wake up. Moments before I was sleeping so deeply. I was annoyed. I woke to the sound of my friends screaming, various expletives, inarticulate gasps, the sensation of spinning, and the sound of crashing inside and outside the bus. My eyes opened to blackness. I immediately pressed my hands and feet into the roof of my bunk as hard as I could, bracing for what I did not know.”

The band is currently touring with Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and Future of the Left. The show in Salt Lake City was cancelled but there is no word yet on if further tour dates will be postponed.
New Solo Album from Front man Tom Gabel
Tom Gabel of Against Me! has posted a stream of his new full length, Heart Burns. You can check out the entirety of the EP here. It is due for release on October 28, 2008.He has also unveiled the fourth in a series of videos to coincide with tracks on the upcoming EP.
Other news
Against Me! drummer Warren Oakes recently spoke to Billboard about their plans for the rest of the year. According to Warren:
“I know Tom [Gabel] has been writing this whole time. We'll probably take a little holiday break, then just get together and start collaborating and start fleshing those songs out and work on writing for most of the early part of next year. We'll probably do some shows some time in the spring, perhaps; to road test some of those new songs.
We'll get in the studio when the time is right, when we have a batch of songs that are ready to go. The biggest pressure that's ever been put on this band has come internally, every step of the way. So we're just gonna take the time to get it right.”

Rep. Robin Hayes (R) NC- "Liberals hate real Americans"

Robin.Hayes
Originally uploaded by environmentamerica

Republican Rep. Robin Hayes of North Carolina brought us this bit of high brow political thought at a McCain rally over the weekend: "liberals hate real Americans that work and achieve and believe in God."
Now we also get to see and hear Randy Kuhl (R-NY) say on camera that he "firmly believes" that Democrats want the American People to suffer and to hurt." Here's the exact quote:

"I firmly believe the Democratic majority wants the American public to suffer and to hurt so that they can make some political gains at election time, and I think that's wrong."

I am a liberal. I do not hate real Americans. I don't even hate this knuckle-dragging chucklehead. I work hard. I try to achieve. I even believe in God and attend church. I do not want to see the American people suffer (like they have the last 8 years). So there...

His remarks came shortly after he had said he would "make sure we don't say something stupid, make sure we don't say something we don't mean." Let's give him a do-over, shall we?

Become the change that you want to see in the world.

Enough for Everyone's Need, Not for Everyone's Greed...

Live simply so that others may simply live.

Become the Media

Don't listen to the one-sided corporate-owned media. They are not in the business of finding the truth. They are only concerned about making money for themselves and their stock holders. If they do report the truth, it is only because it suits their business plan. A happy accident...
Become the media! Blog it, film it, record it...
You still have credibility... They don't.
